For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. Mark 8:35 ESV
If we are honest with ourselves, we would agree that most of us have spent the vast majority of our lives doing all that we can to see that our lives and the lives of our loved ones are as safe and comfortable as possible.
As 21st century Americans, we live in an unprecedented age of safety and comfort. Yet, no matter how comfortable our way of life has become, we also live in an unprecedented age of fear, depression, and anxiety.
Because of the COVID-19 virus, many in the world are frantically trying to save their lives. Fear is at an all-time high.
Let us, as children of God, saved from eternal separation from His glorious presence, not be like the world. Let us not live in fear of what can happen to this earthly temple that we are currently living in. Let us be about our Father's business. Let us lose our lives that we may find true joy and peace and love.
Please ponder this question: Would you rather live one hundred years on a roller coaster worrying about your life and the lives of your loved ones or would you rather live only 33 years like our Savior did, but filled with the joy, peace, and love of the powerful Holy Spirit?
Today, let us "...be transformed by the renewal of our minds..." Romans 12:2
Let us all change our mindset to be different from the rest of the world and to stop putting all our energies and fears into saving our lives. Let us put everything we have into seeing souls saved from eternal torment and, instead, ushered into the loving arms of our heavenly Father.
If we spend the rest of our days making the furtherance of the Gospel our number one priority, no matter what struggles that brings us, we will surely live the rest of our days in the steady peace, joy, and love of the Holy Spirit.
Save your life, and the emotional roller coaster will continue.
Lose your life for His sake and for that of the Gospel, and you will know what true peace and joy really are.
God bless you church!
