Here are one man’s thoughts about the events of yesterday in our nation’s capital. And I’m speaking primarily to Christians, those who have been blood bought and are called His children.
God is still in control! His sovereign rule over the nations, over kings and over those in power, is still very much intact. There is nothing happening in these United States that is hidden from our God’s sight. And what is most interesting, He knows the hearts of all men!
It would do us well at this time, to remember what Scripture teaches us about man: Jeremiah 17:9–10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? 10 “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”
Here's what every believer should understand, God is allowing us to see the lies and manipulation that lead a nation into confusion and destruction for one reason, to call us back to Himself. We should not be surprised by the activities happening in our nation at this time. And get out of that temporal, worldly thinking that says, all hope is lost.
May I remind you that God is in control? Why would we place our trust in man, who the Bible says, is destined to fail us? It's right in the Bible:
Psalm 40:4 Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!
2 Timothy 3:1–5 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
Rather, place your trust in the Lord! Why? Because Proverbs 19:21 tells us, “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.”
It would do all of us well to meditate on Psalm 33:13–22 at this time, “The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue. Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.”
Our response to the mayhem and destruction should lead us to one conclusion... prayer! Why? Because God's Word says, "if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
Don't follow the crowd, don't follow the noise in the media, don't follow those in power who care more for themselves than they do the people. Follow the Lord! Make Him your trust, now and forever!
Now, may the Lord bless you and keep you; may the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
