Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

I woke this morning with this old hymn in mind. It goes like this…

“O soul are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see? There's light for a look at the Savior and life more abundant and free. Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace”

This season of Covid-19 has left many people in a state of fear and stress. I’m not suggesting that we see it with a “Skip to my Lou my darling” attitude. I think this virus needs our respect, but I don’t believe as Christians it should dictate fear. Remember, trouble is part of life.

Even Jesus said, “Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” If we weren’t facing a virus, it would be something else because life is filled with challenges every day.

If you find yourself crippled and paralyzed with fear over the uncertainty, I strongly encourage you to seek a self-prescribed attitude adjustment by meditating on these Scriptures.

Isaiah 35:4 “Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God…”

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.”

Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Psalm 34:1–4 “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 94:19 “When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.”

Romans 8:38–39 “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

1 Peter 5:6–7 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

Always remember that God is with us, He is Sovereign, and we are His children!

Have a God-filled day!
